There are a lot of times I feel lucky, a lot of times when
I feel blessed. But out of those moments, I feel most blessed when my soft
little bunch of fur comes and sits near me. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been
in love with dogs. And even as I am growing up, I truly believe that Dogs are
the best thing that this world has to offer. I don’t remember exactly when I
grew a fondness for dogs and animals. Since I don’t remember, I assume that it
was always in me. I’ve grown up with dogs around me, so for whatever time that
I did not have a dog, my life somehow felt incomplete. And thus came Chuzzle.
I wonder sometimes, what an amazing life my dog leads. He
is everyone’s most favourite member of the family. He gets served food as many
times as he wishes. He gets pampered to no extent. He gets groomed every other
day. He hasn’t a thing to worry about. So the kind of life my family and me
have given to Chuzz is to die for..really. If there’s reincarnation, I wanna be
reborn as a pet dog in a dog lovers’ family. Life will be heaven I am sure. But
then I realised, how helpless that little creature is and so dependent. If an
owner wishes, he can bestow the most miserable life over his pet. The pet
really has no say whatsoever to the kind of life he should lead. He’ll take
whatever is given. And what we give to our dogs is nothing if we go to compare
what they give us. It’s immense. The feeling when they wag their tail at an
extreme momentum just at your sight. The feeling when they lick your face and
feet, the innocence in their eyes, the adorable expression when they are
begging for food, the feeling when you wake up and have a soft bunch of fur
cuddled up next you. These moments are priceless. No matter how you to treat
your pet, he will have only love to give you. The kind of love they can give
cannot be matched. Even at your worst, your dog will think you’re the best
person on this earth. (I know there’s nothing more comforting than your dog
coming and parking himself in your lap when you’re crying.)
I really think we have a great deal to learn from them. To
live only and only in the present, to eat food like you’ve been hungry for days
and you’re going to go hungry for the next week, to have extreme enthusiasm to
step out of the house and to come back in again, to run around just because it
makes you happy, to love every person for what he/she is and never judge. There
maybe a very simple reason for them to be like this, that they do not have a
developed and complex brain. And this fact itself makes them better than us.
Because a human can be evil, manipulative, shrewd, a murderer, a rapist, a
cheat etc; a dog can at the most be cranky and maximum evil that he can do if
you get on his nerves is dig his teeth into your flesh..not a big deal AT ALL.
The poor creature has all the right to stand up for himself.
All this was about our kid dogs. But stray dog is no
different. Just unlucky to have not ended in a home and that’s why neglected
and diseased. But just like the entire species, they are innocent, harmless
creatures. Almost every dog is sheltered in the West and that is something that
I’d like to change in our country. Today I am not doing anything about but feed
a stray I come cross every now and then. But I hope someday I will be able to
do something more concrete for them. This comes from within, to help dogs and
other animals. Even in a movie, I can’t watch a dog or a horse die. It’s too
painful. (Whereas it’s barely anything when they show a human dying.) Some people don’t understand this, they don’t
understand why dogs are more precious than humans. I think the comparison is
baseless because dogs are heavenly and humans are ..well, humans.
So this one is for my Chuzzle, who has helped me in ways he
doesn’t know, who is the most precious gift my life has gifted me with. This
one is for all the dogs I’ve had around me. It’s for that friend of ours who
make a plain day interesting just by sleeping in a funny position. It’s for all
the dogs without whom this world would have been (shit, I can’t even
imagine)..well, it wouldn’t have been worth living in. And this might seem
ridiculously immature and judgmental on my part, but those who have a negative
emotion for dogs(and all other animals), your soul is missing a pretty big chunk.
